About the Sociedad Protectora de Animales y Plantas de Mallorca.

The Sociedad Protectora de Animales y Plantas de Mallorca ( SPAP Mallorca) is a private, independent, apolitical, and charitable association. It has been working to stimulate the respect, care and love for animals and the environment since 1949.

Targets

•  To foment the respect and care of all animals .

•  Encourage the sterilisation of the animals to avoid abandons.

•  Assess and advise about animal welfare.

•  Avoid cruelty and abandoned animals.

•  Shelter and attend injured and abandoned animals .

•  Give informative conferences in schools.

•  Ensure the current legislation on animal welfare is followed.

Projects

The uncontrolled reproduction of dogs and cats is a serious problem for the society and for the animals themselves. Unwanted puppies and kittens do not have any other destination than the Animal Protection Centres or being put down.

A couple of cats that have a litter twice a year and that 2,8 cats survive out of each litter, after 10 years will mean:

Sterilisation is a simple operation that avoids the animal being fertile and that has many benefits:

Aggressiveness towards other males diminishes significantly in males; They loose their desire to chase after females on heat, and cats stop marking their territory.

Females no longer go on heat and it also reduces the risk of suffering certain illnesses such as breast cancer.
